India imports 95% of diesel after US and China as its utilisation stands at 90 Billion litres every year. By 2030, India will be #1 country to in Diesel utilisation. Aramco buying stake in Oil to Chemicals division of Reliance Industries is another preparation by large corporation to handleIndia’s large consumption.

Diesel fuel is important to the Indian economy. India is currently consuming 17 Lakh barrels per day (bpd). The inventor of the diesel engine, Rudolf Diesel, originally designed his engine to use coal dust as fuel. Would he have thought his invention would drive countries economy one day.

At the moment electronic vehicles are not making impact in replacing vehicles in India. Even hypothetically speaking if all vehicles including petrol in India switch to EV, only 15% of diesel and petrol consumption is removed and 85% of diesel utilised still remains as only 15% is vehicle and the rest 85% is others like machinery, manufacturing, construction, service industry, etc.
